Many of you will be aware there are ambitious national targets for woodland creation and there is a growing interest in creating new plantations in south Scotland. Scottish Borders Council is working in partnership with Scottish Forestry to develop a new, more integrated approach to land use, that delivers wider benefits for communities and the environment and ensures that local interests are represented. This proposal will look at two pilot areas of the Borders:

  • Upper Ale water- Mid Ettrick,
  • Hermitage water-Upper Teviot

The Southern Uplands Partnership and Borders Forest Trust have been contracted by Scottish Borders Council to capture local views, and develop mutually agreeable ways forward on this.  They would really like to get your views on this subject and there are a number of ways for this to take place:

Drop-in events from 11am to 5pm on the 25th of September at Kirkhope Hall in Ettrickbridge and on the 30th September at Teviothead Community Hall. On the evenings of these days, there will be workshops running from 6.30 to 9pm and we would welcome your participation. To reserve a place email piptabor@sup.org.uk. There is also an online survey which we invite you to complete. This can be found at https://www.surveymonkey.co.uk/r/woodlandcreation
