Newcastleton Play Area – Coming Autumn 2024!

In September and October 2023, Scottish Borders Council undertook play area consultation in Newcastleton, with the support of Newcastleton Community Trust and Newcastleton Community Council.

An online consultation ran alongside engagement sessions, which took place at Newcastleton Primary School, The Little Explorers Group at Buccleuch House and Newcastleton Youth Club.

There were a total of 107 responses to the consultation.

Community feedback

Feedback from the community has been used to create a new play area design. The design includes a range of equipment for all ages and abilities, including a ‘bespoke’ multi play train unit, a wheelchair accessible roundabout and a range of sensory play panels.

The play area will also benefit from new perimeter fencing, which came out as a key priority for parents with younger children.

Timescale

Decommissioning of the play area will take place after the 2024 summer holidays, installation will commence following, and its likely to be a 6-10wk install (subject to weather and conditions).  Watch this space for reopening details.
