🌿 Wow – what a turnout!
A huge THANK YOU to everyone who joined us today to celebrate the official opening of Path 4 – and well done to those who collected a few chocolate eggs along the way! 🍫🐣
Path 4 marks the completion of Phase 1 of our Active Leisure strategy, a key part of NDCT’s mission to protect, promote, and enhance Newcastleton and the surrounding area.
This project is all about creating a sustainable rural economy by improving physical, cultural, and social spaces – with a big focus on outdoor activities like walking and mountain biking.
🌄 The new path compliments a panoramic viewpoint at Lord Walters Seat and leads into our new woodland plantation, home to diverse broadleaf trees that change with the seasons, support local wildlife, and contribute to flood prevention. Plus, in some areas the trees could be used to generate a sustainable economic return through future timber.
By building on our natural assets and keeping control local, we’re creating spaces the community wants while attracting new visitors to help boost our local economy.
Thank you to the UK government and The Shared Prosperity Fund and Scottish Borders council for funding this. And thank you to everyone who has posted their walks on social media
